Why has Apple done this?
According to Apple, this update makes it easy for users to sign in to your apps and websites using the Apple ID they already have.
Instead of wasting time filling out forms, choosing new passwords and verifying email addresses – users can now use Sign in with Apple to set up an account and start using your app right away.
With a number of special features built-in, the new sign in option is a great way to help users set up an account and start engaging with your app faster!
What about security?
For those worrying about safety, Apple promises built in security with every account that uses Sign in with Apple automatically protected with two-factor authentication.
Apple will also not track users’ activity in your app or website.
A fast, easy way to sign in to apps and websites.
Sign in with Apple is not just for phones, it also works on macOS, tvOS, and watchOS.
It also works in any browser, meaning you can install it on your website and in versions of your apps running on other platforms.
According to the tech giants, Sign in with Apple will:
- Allow users to create an account early in your app experience if your app has limited functionality without an account.
- Allow users to create an account after interacting with features of your app. For example, to save progress or set up a profile.
- Allow users to create an account after completing a purchase as a guest.
- Allow users with existing accounts to sign in or re-authenticate to any version of your app or website.
It’s important to note that if your app exclusively uses a third-party or social media login service (like Facebook Login, Google Sign-In, etc.) to set up your user’s primary account with the app, it must also offer Sign in with Apple as an equivalent option.
