Work, Life & Play: The Thinking Behind Mobiddiction

Our team are onsite and supportTechnology is everywhere.

It sits behind the way we work, the way we travel, the way we communicate, the way we access healthcare and even the way we spend our weekends. Yet for all the technology around us, the best digital experiences rarely feel like technology at all.

They simply feel useful. Natural. Human.

That idea sits at the heart of Mobiddiction.

For us, technology has never been about technology for technology’s sake. It is about understanding a problem, understanding the people experiencing it and then finding a smarter, more useful and sometimes completely unexpected way to solve it.

That is where our brand ethos comes from:

Work. Life. Play.

Three simple words that describe how we see the world, how we approach technology and, ultimately, why we do what we do.

Work: Technology that does something useful

Work is what we do every day.

DPIRD SharkSmart Apps

We work with Government and Enterprise organisations on problems that are often complex, operationally critical and impossible to solve with an off-the-shelf answer.

Our role is to take that complexity and make it simpler.

Sometimes that means building a platform that has to operate reliably every day for years. Sometimes it means connecting data from multiple systems. Sometimes it means creating an entirely new digital experience. Some of our best examples is DPIRD SharkSmart NSW, FishSmart & our partnership with Forestry Corporation of NSW on the MapApp & Department of Customer Service on the long running Survey Marks. Most of these programs were conceptualised, built, delivered, updated over time to modernise them, add more features and upgrades and provide ongoing management.

For more than 12 years, Mobiddiction has worked with the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development on the SharkSmart pro

gram, creating and continuously evolving a digital ecosystem that brings together shark detections, sightings, beach information, operational data and public alerts. (Mobiddiction)

It is a great example of the kind of work we love.

Behind what a beachgoer sees as an app is a much bigger technology ecosystem: real-time data, mapping, APIs, operational workflows, permissions, approvals, analytics and government security requirements.

The technology has to work.

Because when the information is about public safety, there is no room for technology that is merely impressive. It has to be dependable.

And SharkSmart is just one part of our story. Our work spans geospatial platforms, field mobility, digital engagement, enterprise software, AI, immersive technology and large-scale event experiences. (Mobiddiction)

Work is about purpose.

Life: Technology that fits into the real world

PatientVR-India-Virtual-Reality Large

Technology doesn’t live in a server room.

It lives in people’s hands, homes, workplaces, hospitals, cars, beaches and communities.

That changes the way we think about what we build.

We don’t start with the technology. We start with the person.

What are they trying to do?

What is getting in their way?

What would make their experience easier, safer, more enjoyable or simply better?

This thinking is particularly evident in PatientVR.

PatientVR began with a simple human question: could immersive technology help make a difficult healthcare experience a little more comfortable?

Over two years, Mobiddiction consulted with more than 300 people across the healthcare industry to develop a VR experience designed around patient comfort, positive distraction and wellbeing. It has since been trialled with NSW Health and Queensland Metro South Health. (Mobiddiction)

The technology is sophisticated.

The experience is deliberately simple.

A patient puts on a headset and can find themselves somewhere completely different: exploring a landscape, experiencing nature, interacting with an environment or simply taking a moment away from the clinical surroundings.

That is Life.

It is where technology meets the human experience.

Play: What happens when we get curious?

Then there is Play.

VR in healthcare

Play is probably the most misunderstood word in our brand ethos.

It doesn’t mean we don’t take things seriously.

Quite the opposite.

Play is what gives us permission to explore.

It is the part of Mobid

diction that asks:

What if we tried this?

Could we make that interactive?

What happens if AI does this?

Could a map actually understand how someone wants to travel?

Could VR help someone experience something they can’t experience in the real world? Could technology make a large event feel smaller and easier to navigate?

This curiosity has taken us into some pretty interesting places.

We’ve created augmented reality experiences for cricket, 360-degree virtual experiences, immersive VR programs, AI-powered mapping and wayfinding, drone-based mapping and interactive experiences for major events. (Mobiddiction)

For the Sydney Royal Easter Show and Melbourne Royal Show, for example, we have built digital mapping and wayfinding experiences that help visitors navigate large, temporary environments, including AI-powered ways to find their way around. (Mobiddiction)

And with our mapping work for Invocare Group, we combined drone and 360-degree photography with spatial data to create a consistent digital mapping experience across 14 memorial parks in NSW and Queensland. (Mobiddiction)

These aren’t ideas that necessarily begin with a requirements document.

Sometimes they begin with curiosity.

That’s Play.

The space between Work, Life & Play

The interesting thing is that these three things don’t really exist separately.

They overlap.

A Government platform can be serious Work, but still need to be intuitive enough to fit naturally into someone’s Life.

A healthcare experience can be incredibly important Work, but may only become successful when we approach the problem with the curiosity and experimentation of Play.

A mapping platform might start as a technical challenge, but ultimately its success is determined by how easily a real person can use it in their Life.

That’s where we believe good technology lives.

At the intersection of purpose, people and possibility.

We take technology seriously. We don’t take ourselves too seriously.

Mobiddiction has been building technology in Australia since 2012.

We’ve grown from mobile-first products into working across Government and Enterprise, AI, spatial technology, immersive experiences and large-scale digital platforms. Today, we’re an Australian-owned technology company with a long history of delivering and supporting programs that need to work in the real world. (Mobiddiction)

But the technology landscape keeps changing. So we keep experimenting.

Our next-generation M4 platform, for example, is developed around AI-powered, modular technology for complex, real-time systems. It represents the next step in our thinking: moving beyond static digital solutions towards technology that can adapt, respond and become more intelligent over time. (Mobiddiction)

That is the balance we want to maintain. The discipline to build technology that works. The empathy to understand the people who use it. And the curiosity to imagine what might be possible next.

Work. Life. Play.

It’s not just a tagline. It’s how we think.

Work gives us purpose.
Life gives us perspective.
Play gives us possibility.

And somewhere in between those three is where you’ll find Mobiddiction.
